Fort Lauderdale Duplex

Team                Austin Fox Architecture | Miguel Hastings, Landscape Architect

Client               Champion Builders of Florida

Location           Fort Lauderdale, Florida

This newly constructed contemporary duplex occupies a prominent site within an established residential neighborhood. Miguel Hastings designed the landscape to respond to the building's refined modernist vocabulary. Tightly clipped Japanese Blueberry hedges, geometrically massed, define the entry sequences. Beyond this formal threshold, a relaxed planting scheme of Satin Leaf and Silver Buttonwood trees, underplanted with ornamental grasses and low shrubs, provides textural counterpoint while satisfying code-required canopy coverage.

The building's substantial footprint presented significant site constraints. Miguel Hastings addressed these challenges through close coordination with the architectural and engineering teams, implementing technical solutions including structural soil systems and root barrier installations to protect subsurface utilities and hardscape infrastructure.
